100-year-old Royal Navy veteran Alec Penstone who participated in the D-Day Landings made a powerful observation about the state of his homeland on Remembrance Sunday.

He lamented that the sacrifice of his friends who died fighting for their country “wasn’t worth it” because today’s Britain has lost the freedom they so bravely went into battle for.

The hosts of Good Morning Britain asked him: “What does Remembrance Sunday mean for you? What is your message?”

He replied, “My message is, I can see in my mind’s eye, there was rows and rows of white stones of all the hundreds of my friends and everybody else that gave their lives for what? The country of today?”

“THE SACRIFICE WASN’T WORTH THE RESULT THAT IT IS NOW”

“No, I’m sorry. The sacrifice wasn’t worth the result that it is now.”

“What we fought for was our freedom. We fought for it even now.”

“It’s a downside worse than what it was when I fought for it.”

Christian broadcaster CBN News observed: “That’s not bitterness talking. You can hear the heartbreak in his voice.”

“VETERAN IS WONDERING IF PROMISED FREEDOMS EVEN EXIST ANYMORE”

“This is a man who watched his friends die for a nation that promised to uphold freedoms.”

“Now he’s wondering if that freedom even exists anymore.”

So are thousands of others who were so touched by Alec’s honest observations that they responded en masse to the viral video of his comments with messages of support.

Alec later told The Daily Mail: It was my own personal opinion, but evidently it touched a chord with very many people.”

“My daughter has had so many messages from all over the world,” he revealed.

ALEC’S SERVICE IN WORLD WAR II

Alec is a veteran of the Arctic convoys that took vital supplies to Russia in the Second World War which he described as “hell on earth.”

He served on the escort aircraft carrier HMS Campania.

The Russians awarded him a bravery medal for his efforts.

During the D-Day landings in Normandy in June 1944, he swept for mines.

“THE COUNTRY HAS GONE TO RACK AND RUIN”

More than 80 years later, he tells The Daily Mail: “‘I don’t know what the hell we fought for and why we lost so many wonderful men. The country has gone to rack and ruin.”

“There are too many people with their fingers in the till.”

“Faith in our country was the best thing [when he was young].”

“But nowadays there’s too many people that just want their own little corner at the expense of everybody else.”

ON TODAY’S POLITICAL LEADERS: “I’VE GOT NO FEELINGS FOR THEM”

Asked of his view of wartime prime minister Winston Churchill and how he thinks today’s politicians match up to him, Alec says: “I admired him. He was a leader.”

“And he made sure what needed to be done was done.”

“There is no comparison whatsoever to the modern leaders.”

“In this world today it is every man for himself.”

“I’ve got no feelings for any of them.’

FREEDOMS VETERANS BLED AND DIED FOR ARE STARTING TO DISAPPEAR

CBN News writes: “It’s really sad to watch the heartbreak of Alec Penstone and he’s not wrong to ask where freedoms have gone in the UK.”

“The freedoms that he and his comrades had bled for are starting to disappear.”

“We’ve seen Christians being arrested simply for praying silently outside abortion clinics.”

“These are thought crimes happening, and it’s not only just a thought crime, it’s about prayer.

BRITONS ARE GETTING ARRESTED FOR SHARING THE GOSPEL AND POSTING ANTI-HAMAS MEMES

“We’ve seen street preachers again and again, men and women peacefully sharing the Gospel, handcuffed in public squares and hauled off and taken away.”

“It’s speech online. Police have literally shown up at people’s homes in the middle of the night over their tweets about Hamas.

“This is a terror organisation and innocent Britons are getting arrested for posting anti-Hamas memes.

“THIS IS NOT THE COUNTRY ALEC PENSTONE FOUGHT AND BLED FOR”

“This is not the country that Alec Penstone fought and bled for and saw his brothers fight and die for,” continued the CBN News report by Managing Editor Dan Andros.

“The fabric of British life is being torn apart at the seams by things like unchecked immigration and cultural fragmentation.”

The centenarian’s fears for the state of the country echo a major study that found that 80% of Britons feel the nation is divided.

Half the nation believes Britain’s ‘culture’ is changing too fast.

Nostalgia for Britain’s past rose in every single age group, even Gen-Z.

“AUTHORITIES AVOID ENFORCING LAWS FOR FEAR OF CAUSING OFFENCE”

Dan Andros reports former government minister Michael Gove recently said what many Britons are afraid to: That mass migration has changed the UK so rapidly that the shared culture can’t keep up.

“Authorities avoid enforcing their own laws for fear of being offensive.”

“So when Alec Penstone says “It wasn’t worth it,” it really breaks your heart because he’s looking at the country he risked his life for and seeing leaders who’ve squandered that legacy of freedom he and his fallen brothers in arms paid for in blood.”

“But there’s another important truth:”

FREEDOM ISN’T DEAD YET

Dan Andros explains as he addresses Alec Penstone in concluding his article:

“His service and his friends and his brothers in arms, their sacrifice was worth it because freedom, while it might be hanging on by a thread in some areas, it isn’t completely dead yet.”

“It still lives in every believer who prays in public, who still preaches the gospel out on the streets, and who still speak truth no matter the cost.”

“Mr. Penstone, your generation built the foundation and despite the obvious setbacks and challenges we’re dealing with right now, there are still millions of Britons and Americans who will continue the fight for freedom with courage and conviction and faith.”

“So once again, sir, thank you for your service and God Bless.”
