The Temple Institute in Jerusalem has issued an unusual and extensive clarification following widespread coverage of reports about the sacrifice of a red heifer and the production of ritual ashes on July 1 this year.

This is an act central to Biblical purity laws detailed in the book of Numbers, chapter 19.

For many religious observers, the ritual is deeply symbolic in the context of prophetic events.

The sacrifice of a red heifer on the Mount of Olives while facing the site of the Temple is said to be a precursor to the building of the Third Temple.

THIRD TEMPLE WOULD USHER IN KINGDOM OF GOD RULED BY A MESSIANIC FIGURE

Religious Jews are convinced a new Temple, which would replace the Temple destroyed by the Romans in the first century, would usher in the kingdom of God, ruled by a messianic figure.

The Jewish News Syndicate reports only nine heifers were sacrificed from the time of Moses until the destruction of the Second Temple in 70 C.E.

It writes that: “In both Judaism and Christianity, the appearance of viable red heifer candidates heralds the Messiah.”

The Temple Institute admitted to the burning of a heifer in the Samarian hills, but stressed it was only a simulation, as part of a decade-long series of educational and practical preparations.

It said it was not a production of red heifer ashes as strictly validated by Jewish religious laws.

WHY THE RECENT BURNING OF A RED HEIFER WAS INVALID

The Institute emphasised several key points:

The event was a practice only, using a heifer that was invalid
• Priestly garments used were not consecrated, so it was non-kosher
• The ashes created were left in place and invalid for ritual purification
• Only samples were collected by individuals who were ritually impure

“Anyone who claims otherwise, is mistaken and misleading,” the Institute warned.

It confirmed that four red heifers remain under observation at Shiloh.

Some reports indicated all have developed defects and are therefore invalid under Jewish religious law.

THE GLOBAL SEARCH FOR THE PERFECT HEIFER

Several years ago a global search was launched to find the perfect heifer.

It had to be composed entirely of red hairs and checked with a magnifying glass to ensure not even one of its hairs is a different colour.

There must be no flaws or blemishes, even from the ear tags commonly used by cattle ranchers.

“We just need a perfectly red cow. An exceedingly rare occurrence,” stated Adam Eliyahu Berkowitz, author of Return of the Red Heifers: Paving the Road to Redemption.

21 RED HEIFERS FOUND IN TEXAS, FIVE SENT TO ISRAEL

Texas transport tycoon Byron Stinson who has a home in Israel and lives there part of the year, funded a search to find heifers that would fit the exacting requirements of the Biblical text.

He advertised in rancher magazines, reaching out to breeders and offering A$75,000 for each heifer.

He detailed the search for suitable cows in his book The Hunt for the Red Heifer.

It eventually led to 21 animals in Texas — two Santa Gertrudis and 19 Red Angus heifers.

After a review by rabbis working on the project, five heifers were flown to Israel in 2021. One was used in the ‘simulation.’

If the remaining four are confirmed to have blemishes, it’s unclear whether another search for ‘perfect’ red heifers is underway.

SANHEDRIN ALSO COMMENTS ON RED HEIFER REPORTS

Worthy Christian News reports that the modern version of the Sanhedrin convened early this month and issued a formal ruling endorsing the Temple Institute’s clarification “completely.”

The Sanhedrin also issued an unusual public address to Gentiles worldwide, emphasising the Seven Noahide Laws God gave to Noah, and warning against spiritual deception:

“Anyone who invents that the ashes from a red heifer exercise purify Gentiles… such a person is among the fraudsters and swindlers.”

The ruling stressed that only those who accept the Seven Noahide Commandments are called “Righteous Among the Nations,” and that no ritual involving invalid ashes conveys any healing or spiritual standing.

HEIGHTENED PUBLIC INTEREST IN RED HEIFER RITUAL

The clarification comes amid heightened interest in the red heifer ritual among Christians worldwide, many of whom view Temple-related developments through the lens of Biblical prophecy.

As preparations surrounding the Temple Mount accelerate, many Christian prophecy teachers believe these actions may foreshadow conditions in which events that have been prophesied could unfold.

In their view, the convergence of renewed Temple readiness, public Sanhedrin rulings, and global religious controversy signals that the world may be approaching what Scripture describes as the “great deception” of the last days.

The Temple Institute reiterated that the genuine production of holy ashes remains a long, meticulous process requiring a fully kosher heifer, proper conditions on the Mount of Olives, and comprehensive readiness under Jewish religious law,

“When we are ready, the real red heifer will be made, G-d willing,” the statement declared, calling for patience and perseverance.

DID RED HEIFER PLANS TRIGGER HAMAS ATTACK ON ISRAEL?

One of the leaders of Hamas claimed the arrival of the red heifers in Israel was one of the motives for the attack on Israel on October 7, 2023.

The Temple Mount is the current site of the Dome of the Rock, part of the al-Aqsa Mosque, an Islamic sacred site.

“One of the reasons Israel was attacked is because of the red heifers,” Mr. Berkowitz insisted.

PALESTINIANS ARE WORRIED ABOUT THE REBUILDING THE TEMPLE

“The Palestinian Arabs were worried about Jews rebuilding the Third Temple, which is why the invasion was called Al-Aqsa Flood,” he explained.

“Hezbollah said the same. So, if our enemies focus on it, we should also know about it.”

“IDF soldiers fighting in Gaza reported that many homes there have a picture of the Dome of the Rock which Muslims call Al-Aqsa, because they’re focused on thwarting what they see as imminent attempts to build the Third Temple.”

For now, both Jewish authorities and Christian observers agree on one point:

The world is watching, and developments surrounding the Temple Mount carry profound religious, cultural, and prophetic implications.
